Nearly one year
About a year ago I had my interview for the PhD scholarship that I have now. A bit later I went to London, saw my friend Lars, stayed at Richmond and was reminded of my lost love who lived close by. On the 17th of November I received an Email with the all clear for my scholarship as a final approval.
I then went to Glasgow, enjoying what I thought would be my last think-free holiday for a while....

Once again
While working on my research I took a break to read todays news, when I found the article about Red Kites in Herald Scotland.
The bird looked so familiar that I looked it up and found out that of course I must know the red kite, that is known as Roter Milan in German.
The map below shows where one can find the Red Kite in Europe. While orange means they are just passing through in certain...
Diving into the topic
Although many days have passed it feels as if time flew by.
I got the PhD scholarship and started researching for my topic. Originally I applied with a thesis about the influence of scottish enlightenment on german protestant theologians, using Francis Hutcheson - whos work was translatet by Gotthold Ephraim Lessing - as an example. During my interview and a discussion between the profs and my...

Socks
TK Maxx is my favorite store for a while now and I happen to buy not only shirts and blouses, jeans and jackets there. I also like to purchase underwear and socks.
I recently bought some of these and earned a grinning smile and comment about them from my pollok “VIP” guide.
Back home I found out why. I didn’t buy them on purpose but now that I know that Pringles are scottish,...
Epiphany
People used to ask me why I like Glasgow so much. I just had an epiphany and can now clearly answer where I used to give a shrug cause I didn’t really know myself.
Glasgow is the Berlin I used to know when I was a kid.
I grew up in East Berlin, very close to the border. Berlin consists of many quarters, like villages within the city. We were a close knit community and interested in the...

Night out
Apart from being out on friday too, last night was a proper night out. Drinks chat and later club and dancing. We went to the corinthian. I’m still impressed by the location itself. This main hall is not only huge, in terms of high, the old court style and the new bar inside it kind of matched. The dancefloor on the other hand was disappointing cause too small and therefore too crowded. Ok i...
been a while since
I wrote last time.
My horrible job is over, I’m free to think again and I have perspectives.
Seems the theme for my thesis got some attention and some profs are interested in it. I should apply again for the scholarship but focus on a certain field, my previous thesis was simply to wide spread.
In a week I’ll be in Glasgow again and am soooo looking forward to it. A place to let go,...

Bloody english :-)
Am on my way to work. Late. But that doesn’t matter. In 10 days i’ll be in glasgow and i’m so looking forward to it that i just had an epiphany.
Ok, i have to admitt, 2 bloody english helped.
I just reached a point where I thought of C and my past with a smile. While these 2 english upset me immensely. Funny how easy things can change. :-) now its not upsetting or sad to see C...

Sometimes it seems easy
Getting excited again. I’ll be in glasgow soon and that makes time in the office pass faster in expectation and anxiety. Writing rubbish again :-) yeh brain switches off partly due to vorfreude :-)
I hope to find new sources of inspiration for my thesis.
The little scot from edinburgh yesterday said people in germany are colder. That in scotland you can just walk up to anybody in a pub and...
